3rd Annual Conference of the DNGK, together with the DFG Research Group HELICAP

05 – 06 June 2025 in Berlin (Robert Bosch Stiftung)

The DNGK is organising its third annual conference on ‘Evidence & Health Literacy’ together with the DFG research group HELICAP and its international advisory board. The conference will explore how robust evidence can be generated to assess and promote health literacy, and how evidence from health and disease research can be incorporated into health literacy interventions.

International and national experts will ensure an exciting start to the conference.

Keynote Lectures and Panel Discussion

Dr. Robert Boyle

Consultant paediatric allergist

Keynote | Thursday, June 5, 2025

Dr Boyle is a fully accredited children’s allergy specialist in London, who is able to help children and adolescents affected by allergy problems. His NHS base at St. Mary’s Hospital is one of the country’s largest allergy clinics for children and young people.

He is an expert in diagnosing and treating allergy in children, including food allergy, eczema, hayfever, and asthma. Dr Boyle has an active research programme at Imperial College, London and is able to access state of the art allergy tests and allergy treatments for his patients if they are needed.
 

Prof. Richard Osborne

NHMRC Investigator Fellow (L3) and Distinguished Professor, Health Sciences

Richard Osborne is Distinguished Professor of Health Sciences and Director, Centre for Global Health and Equity. He holds a prestigious NHMRC Principal Research Fellowship (2019-23), is an adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO), and is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2021 and 2018 top 1% most influential researcher globally). He holds Honorary Professor positions at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers and has been cited over 50,000 times. He has been awarded over $30m in competitive funding.

Professor Osborne and his team have an exceptional track record in building new methods and tools that are implemented globally to serve Public Health, Healthcare, Digital Health and Policy sectors. These outputs include measurement tools (e.g., HLQ, eHLQ, heiQ, MAPT, CHAT) that enable improvements in health and community services to reduce health inequalities.
 

Kristine Sørensen, PhD

President of International Health Literacy Association and Chair of Health Literacy Europe

Kristine Sørensen, PhD is an award-winning, global expert and trusted advisor on health literacy. She is the founder of the Global Health Literacy Academy, president of the International Health Literacy Association, and executive chair of Health Literacy Europe. She is a Supertrends expert and member of European Health Futures Forum. Her educational background is in medicine, public health and global health diplomacy.

She works with international organizations, governments, academia, industry and civic society to improve health literacy for all. Among others the World Health Organization, Council of Europe, and McKinsey.
 

Professor Helen Elizabeth Smith

Professor of General Practice

Prof Helen Smith graduated in medicine from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom (UK) and later trained in epidemiology and health services research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and at the University of British Columbia.

She has dual accreditations in General Practice and Public Health Medicine and has experience of working in academic, hospital and general practice settings, both in the UK and Canada. She has been the founding professor of General Practice in two medical schools; Brighton and Sussex Medical School, University of Sussex, UK and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
